ABOUT US Dr. Paul J. Francois opened General Booth Veterinary Hospital in 1991 with one thing in mind: to offer quality animal care to the Southside of Virginia Beach. In designing this facility, he worked closely with the historic review board of Virginia Beach due to the hospital's close proximity to Nimmo Church. After opening, he was awarded the "Best Commercial Development" award from the city of Virginia Beach. Since opening, Dr. Francois has added five more veterinarians and now has a staff of 24 employees, all of whom treat every one of our patients as if they were their own pets. Our goal is always to treat all of our patients and their parents with compassion and dignity and to adhere to the highest standards of care. AAHA Certified Hospital Our hospital is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association for excellence in small animal care. To be AAHA accredited, the hospital must adhere to strict requirements and is inspected periodically and evaluated on over 900 standards to ensure that those standards are maintained.  Only 15% of all small animal hospitals in the United States have successfully gone through the accreditation process.  We are proud to reach and maintain this pinnacle in veterinary care and strive to provide you with the highest quality of care. AAHA requires that we: • Maintain orderly and complete medical records for each patient we see • Maintain a complete diagnostic facility so that we are equipped to make prompt and accurate diagnosis and treatment for your pet • Maintain a complete onsite pharmacy • Utilize proper anesthetic procedures including a pre-anesthetic examination and a safe, painless, state-of-the-art anesthesia • Maintain modern surgical facilities • Provide nursing care to our patients • Maintain a safe and sanitary facility, including the outside premises • Provide dental services • Provide access to 24-hour emergency service. General Booth Veterinary Hospital General Booth Veterinary Hospital is a state of the art, 8000 square foot facility designed for the comfort of our clients and patients.  We provide high quality pet health and wellness care to assist your pet in living a longer, happier and healthier life. In our facility, we have modern, up to date equipment.  This includes a completely computerized practice to maintain our clients medical records, assist with boarding scheduling, client education as well as pharmacy prescriptions and inventory control.  We maintain a fully stocked surgery suite utilizing general anesthesia to do most soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.  We regularly do dental work which includes teeth cleaning, polishing and extractions if necessary.  We have ECG, pulse oximetry, respiratory monitors and blood pressure monitoring for our medical and surgical patients.  We have a complete in-house blood chemistry diagnostic machine as well as the ability to run many other diagnostic tests through a variety of outside labs.  We are able to diagnose and treat most medical and surgical cases in our hospital but if necessary, there are specialists in many fields in the area for us to refer you and your pet.  Our friendly and well trained staff is here to assist you in any way we can to provide for an unsurpassed level of care for your pet.
